Steve Rutter

Director, Creative at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina

Steve Rutter has a diverse work experience in the creative industry. Steve is currently the Director of Creative at Blue Cross NC, starting in September 2023. Prior to this, they worked as an Instructor at Indiana University Bloomington from August 2021 onwards.

Before their role at Indiana University, Steve served as the Creative Director at Movement Mortgage, where they led a team of 13 creatives and freelancers in content creation. Steve also managed their careers and ensured their growth and satisfaction. Steve worked there from January 2021 to July 2023.

Steve has also taught courses at the University of San Francisco, including "The Fundamentals of Creative Development" and "Campaign Project II." Steve coached students in preparing their advertising competition entries and other campaign projects from 2021 to 2022.

Earlier in their career, Steve held senior positions at BBDO San Francisco and BBDO New York as the EVP and Executive Creative Director. Steve supervised content creation for major brands, collaborated with strategists, and maintained relationships with clients and vendors. At BBDO New York, they played a significant role in pitching and retaining high-profile accounts and also co-created the famous M&M's characters.

Additionally, Steve has prior experience as an Instructor at the School of Visual Arts, where they co-taught a portfolio class. Steve also worked as an Art Director at McCann Erickson and started their career as a Junior Art Director at McCaffrey and McCall.
