Laz has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Laz co-founded Blue Lava, Inc. in 2016 and currently holds the position of President and Co-Founder. Prior to this, Laz served as a Co-Founder at the same company from 2016 to 2021. In 2012, Laz worked as a Business and Technical Advisor. Laz also served as a Tech Partner at Rally Ventures from 2012 onwards. Laz has experience in academia as an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University since 2015. Laz held the positions of CISO and then Technical Advisor at vArmour from 2015 to 2016. Laz worked as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Sears Online Business Unit (OBU) in 2012 and at Silver Tail Systems acquired by RSA/EMC from 2011 to 2012. Laz was also the Director of Strategy at Silver Tail Systems during this period. From 2009 to 2011, Laz served as the Director of Information Protection and Risk Management, Sears Online Business Unit (OBU) at Sears Holdings Corporation. Prior to this, they worked at Blue Lava Consulting as an IT Security Strategy and Risk Management Consultant from 2007 to 2009. Laz's earlier experience includes working as the VP of Strategic Initiatives at ReddShell Corporation, which was later acquired by TrustWave, from 2003 to 2007.

Laz has a Master's of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School. Additionally, Laz holds a Master's degree in Computer Information Systems with a focus on Information Security from the University of Denver. Laz also obtained a Bachelor's degree from Colorado State University, although the field of study is unspecified.

In terms of certifications, Laz obtained the Boardroom Certified Qualified Technology Expert (QTE) certification from the Digital Directors Network in July 2022. Prior to that, Laz acquired the CRISC certification from ISACA in March 2011, the CSSLP certification from ISC2 in November 2008, the CISA certification from ISACA in February 2007, and the CISM certification from ISACA in February 2004.
