Blue Ridge Power (BRP) is seeking a Lead PV Electrical Engineer to assist BRP’s engineering department. The Lead Electrical PV Engineer is responsible for managing external engineering resources, maintaining BRP electrical design standards, ensuring project compliance with owner and regulatory requirements, and overall subject matter expertise in PV Electrical Engineering. The candidate must have a distinguished record of successful PV Electrical Engineering implementation and management and be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and result-oriented. This position will report to the Director, PV Design Engineering.

This position can be remote, preferably within comfortable travel distance of one of our BRP office locations in Asheville or Fayetteville, NC, and any travel will be fully reimbursable. Competitive salary and annual bonus offered. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Review owner project requirements for cost, schedule, and constructability implications.
  • Review and compile owner’s project-specific Scope of Work (SoW) documents for PV Electrical Engineering.
  • Issue Requests for Proposals (RFP) to third-party engineering design consultants.
  • Review third-party engineering design consultant proposals for SoW and technical compliance.
  • Guide discipline-specific engineering discussions and decisions.
  • Manage consultants to ensure the implementation of engineering requirements and standards.
  • Serve as project PV Electrical Engineering discipline’s Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Work with Project Managers on scheduling and engineering cost containment.
  • Coordinate/Interface with different engineering disciplines, management, finance, contracting, and construction teams to ensure effective development of solar projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing third-party consultants.
  • Provide feedback on the consultant’s performance and areas of improvement.
  • Review PV Electrical Engineering deliverables for owner compliance including drawing sets, electrical calculations for AC and DC cable sizing, underground cable thermal analysis, overhead medium voltage design, voltage drop, grounding, arc flash analysis, and other electrical design elements and studies.
  • Review PV Electrical engineering deliverables for local, state, and federal code and safety requirements.
  • Provide permit application support.
  • Review PV electrical engineering designs for design optimization recommendations.
  • Coordinate responses to construction RFIs and equipment Submittals from vendors, sub-contractors, and independent engineers.
  • Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, AutoCAD, and PV design review software.
  • Additional duties as assigned and/or directed.

Must-Haves:

  • 4+ years of PV Electrical Engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of Engineering Management experience.
  • AutoCAD proficiency.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical principles.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code and other standards relevant to the industry.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage distribution and protection systems.
  • Knowledge of underground cable analysis.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Availability to perform site visits and inspections when relevant.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and make corrective changes.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Professional Engineering license.
  • PVcase, WinIGS, and ETAP design software proficiency.
  • Knowledge of arc flash study analysis.
  • Knowledge of grounding study analysis.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent Technology program is required.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This position can be remote, preferably within comfortable travel distance of one of our BRP office locations in Asheville or Fayetteville, NC.
  • The position works in an office environment.
  • Travel to our BRP offices and project sites up to 10-15% in given site conditions.
  • Must be able to sit/stand at a desk and utilize a computer for extended periods.
  • May require lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.
