Evelyn Barnes

Evelyn Barnes is the current Chief Financial Officer at Boston Symphony Orchestra. Evelyn has also previously served as the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer at City Year, Inc from August 2005 to September 2017. At City Year, Evelyn was a part of the executive leadership team and helped with the budget of $160 million as well as a staff of 4,000. Evelyn was also responsible for driving enterprise sustainable growth strategy to meet projected services needs across new and existing markets. This allowed for thetripling of revenue and liquidity turnaround, even through recession, including innovative incentive-based financial and performance initiatives.

Evelyn Barnes also led a three-year strategic IT overhaul to build more scalable processes and systems. Evelyn was also effective in employing financing vehicles on the cutting edge for tax-exempt organizations, including swaps and derivatives, as well as compliance and risk controls in leading City Year’s investment, finance and audit committees. Evelyn Barnes was such a leading force in City Year that they received a top, 4-star ranking for twelve years running from Charity Navigator (99th percentile in financial health, accountability, transparency). Because of their great work at City Year, Evelyn Barnes was named 2010 CFO of the Year by Boston Business Journal.

Evelyn Barnes completed their undergraduate studies at Boston University, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classics. Evelyn then went on to complete a Master of Arts in Classics at Boston University.
