Black & McDonald is hiring for the Nova Scotia territory including HRM. Reporting to the Facilities Services Sales Leader, the Business Development Representative is responsible for researching potential clients, cold calling, and developing and delivering proposals. While working in a team setting, they will be responsible for securing Facilities services agreements including Facility Management, HVAC, Energy, Plumbing and Electrical maintenance & service while honing your sales skills and assisting customers in developing the best possible solution. This position provides input and participates in the marketing, planning, and technical development of products and services.

This position will include an extensive onboarding/training period of 6 to 9 months in which the selected participant will begin in an account representative support role. Here, they will primarily manage and communicate with Black & McDonald’s existing customer base. They will develop some knowledge for internal processes, target customers and Black & McDonald’s sales process while shadowing existing Business Development Representatives and working with the Sales Leader. Once the onboarding/training period is complete, the selected participant will move into the advertised Business Development Representative role.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Researching, cold calling and setting up meetings with potential clients
  • Utilize proven sales methods to identify and solicit potential clients for future service work
  • Meet with and develop impressionable relationships with potential clients to successfully understand their needs and specific requirements
  • Development and understanding of client operational cost centres to identify areas Black & McDonald can assist in reducing operating cost
  • Develop and maintain communications in a cooperative and professional manner with all levels of internal staff and customers
  • Work with Project Representatives and provide input where non contractual HVAC related services must be tailored to suit clients' needs
  • Develop reports and proposals as part of sales presentation to potential clients
  • Prepare Sales Agreements under the direction of the Sales Team
  • Price the agreement according to the company pricing standards
  • Prepare start-up documents for set up and attend start up meetings with new clients
  • Continue personal professional development and sales training
  • Participate in department planning meetings as necessary
  • Keep internal software and database up to date with sales activities
  • Attend weekly sales meetings, currently scheduled Friday afternoons at 1:00pm in the Halifax office
  • Provide weekly update Friday afternoons on week’s activity and upcoming scheduled activities
  • Formalized review monthly during first quarter, then quarterly
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A university degree or college diploma in business commerce or related sales/marketing discipline

  • 1-3 years' experience in sales and preparing proposals or contracts.
