Sherman Chan

Chief Economist at Business NSW

Sherman Chan has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Sherman began their career in 2005 as an Analyst at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority. Following this, they worked as an Economist at Moody's Analytics from 2006 to 2009. Sherman then moved on to HSBC as an Economist in their Global Research department from 2010 to 2011.

In 2014, Sherman became a Sessional Lecturer at UNSW, teaching in the School of Economics. Sherman also worked as a Modelling Manager at Commonwealth Bank in 2015. From 2015 to 2019, they held multiple positions at NSW Treasury, including Principal Economist, Acting Director, and Principal Analyst.

Sherman then took on a role as the Performance Audit Leader at the Audit Office of New South Wales from 2019 to 2021. In 2019, they also had a secondment to Aboriginal Affairs NSW as a Principal Analyst. Following this, they joined MinterEllison as a Senior Manager in Risk & Regulatory Consulting from 2021 to 2022.

Most recently, Sherman became the Chief Economist at Business NSW in March 2022.

Sherman Chan has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from UNSW and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) with a focus on Economics & Finance from UNSW.
