Matthew Kearney

Matthew Kearney is a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice since October 2016, specializing in post-conviction proceedings including felony appeals and habeas corpus petitions. In addition, Kearney serves as a Graduate Legal Assistant and Adjunct Professor, teaching courses in Criminal Law and Legal Writing. As an International Criminal Law Reporter for Oxford University Press, Kearney provides case summaries and analyses on international criminal tribunal decisions. Previous experience includes work as a Research Assistant at the United Nations and the University of California, Davis, focusing on cultural rights violations and human rights issues. Kearney holds a J.D. from the University of California, Davis and a B.A. from Brigham Young University, with additional education at The University of Bonn.
