Stephen Westaby

Steve is recognised as one of the world’s most innovative cardiac surgeons. He is a former Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and he continues to pioneer combined pump and stem cell therapies. At Oxford in 2000, Prof Westaby implanted the first permanent LVAD into a human patient. Following his recent retirement from surgery, Steve has become a published author of books including “Fragile Lives” (titled “Open Heart” in N America) and “The Knife’s Edge”.
