Farah Husein

Director, Science & Methods - Evidence Standards. CADTH at Canada's Drug Agency

Farah Husein has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Farah's most recent role is as the Director of Science & Methods - Evidence Standards at CADTH, starting in November 2022. In this position, they report to the Chief Scientist and Vice President of Evidence Standards and is responsible for advancing the science function, maintaining scientific oversight, and ensuring the rigour and quality of CADTH's scientific reports.

Prior to CADTH, Farah worked at Takeda Canada Inc as the Director of Evidence Generation from August 2018 to November 2022. In this role, they provided support to planning and execution of studies across all Europe and Canada (EUCAN) Local Operating Companies (LOCs) and worked with the LOC cross-functional team to define the local evidence generation strategy.

From 2012 to 2018, Farah held various roles at Astellas Pharma Canada, Inc. Farah served as the Associate Director of Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Pipeline Products in the Medical Affairs department. In this role, they were accountable for developing and overseeing activities related to pharmacoeconomics, patient reported outcomes, epidemiology, and real-world evidence for Astellas products across multiple therapeutic areas. Farah was also the Associate Director of Oncology - Medical Affairs, where they led the development and execution of the Medical Affairs Strategic Plan for investigational and marketed products for the Oncology franchise.

From 2010 to 2012, Farah worked at BAYER HEALTH CARE PHARMACEUTICALS as a Medical/Scientific Advisor in the Medical and Scientific Affairs department. In this role, they provided medical and strategic input to the brand team and participated in life cycle management teams.

Starting in 2006, Farah spent four years at Tibotec, a division of Janssen-Ortho Inc, in two different roles. Farah first served as the Regional Scientific Communications Manager, Virology and later became a Clinical Project Manager, Virology. In these positions, they were responsible for scientific liaison with HIV healthcare practitioners, development of scientific materials, scientific exchange, and management of clinical trials.

Prior to Tibotec, Farah worked at Janssen-Ortho Inc in various roles starting in 2002. Farah served as a Science and Research Liaison for GI in the Medical Development department, leading the local study team and identifying clinical data gaps. Farah was also a Senior Medical Development Associate, responsible for the development of clinical trials and managing project deliverables.

Farah began their career in 1999 at AstraZeneca, where they worked as a Clinical Scientist in the GI - Medical Affairs department. Farah led the local study team and was involved in recruitment strategies and study protocol development. Farah also held the role of Clinical Supplies Associate, participating in the development of clinical drug trials and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.

Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Farah worked as a Clinical Trials Pharmacist at the University Health Network (UHN) / formerly The Toronto Hospital from 1996 to 1999. In this role, they reviewed protocols for clinical drug trials, coordinated pharmacy involvement, and provided information on investigational agents and protocols.

Overall, Farah Husein has demonstrated expertise in evidence generation, health economics, medical affairs, and clinical trial management throughout their career in the pharmaceutical industry. Farah'sroles have involved strategic planning, scientific oversight, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive the success of various projects and initiatives.

Farah Husein holds a Master's degree in Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, which they obtained from the University of Florida in 2017. Prior to this, they completed their Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree at the University of Florida from 2007 to 2010. In 1989, Farah completed a Hospital Pharmacy Residency program at the Toronto General Hospital/U of T. Farah acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy (BScPhm) from the University of Toronto in 1988. Additionally, Farah obtained certification as an HBA Mentor from the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association in December 2022.
