James Ball has a diverse work experience in the field of art and design. James started their career as a Mid-level Graphic Artist at FPMI Solutions in 2005, where they were responsible for creating and rendering scenes for training courseware. In 2006, they joined Atomic Games as an Environment Artist and worked there until 2009. At Atomic Games, they contributed to the creation of environments for video games. From 2010 to 2012, they worked at 38 Studios as an Environment Artist and Worldbuilding Principal Artist, managing a team and leading the design direction and aesthetic calls. James then joined Harmonix Music Systems in 2012 as an Artist, where they created concept art and polished level layouts for various projects. In 2016, they worked as an Environment Artist at Runic Games, where they contributed to the development of the game Hob. James mainly focused on creating set pieces for puzzles and points of interest, adapting to the specific art style of the game. In 2017, James joined Harebrained Schemes as a Senior Environment Artist, working on environment design. And in 2018, they joined Cat Daddy Games as a Generalist Artist.
James Ball attended Full Sail University from 2003 to 2004, where they obtained an AS degree in Computer Animation. Prior to that, from 1997 to 2001, they pursued a BFA degree in Painting and Drawing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
