Li Ern Chen, MD MSCS has an extensive and varied education history. In 1999, they began their medical studies at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where they obtained their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 2003. Following this, they completed their residency in General Surgery at the same institution from 2003 to 2008.

In 2010, Chen pursued a Master of Science (Clinical Sciences) at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, which they completed in 2013. Li Ern then undertook a Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin & Children's Hospital of Wisconsin from 2008 to 2010.
