Job description

Catbird, a jewelry manufacturer and retailer, is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our team. The HR Generalist will be responsible for administering HR policies and procedures, handling employee relations, performance management, onboarding, benefits, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations. This position is hybrid - 4 days in office at our Brooklyn Navy Yard HQ.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage new hire onboarding and orientation programs
  • Championing Catbird’s culture and setting new hires up for success
  • Own the HRIS system, Paycom
  • Maintaining accurate employee records
  • Administer HR policies and procedures and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations of the different states we operate in
  • Be the initial point of contact for employees with HR questions
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and terminations
  • Handle employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures
  • Oversee performance management processes, performance evaluations, and performance improvement plans
  • Assist with training programs on various HR topics, including sexual harassment prevention, diversity and inclusion, and employee development
  • Assist with processing payroll weeklyStay up-to-date on changes in employment laws and regulations and ensure compliance
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives as needed.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 3+ years of experience in human resources roles, with a focus on HR generalist functions
  • Preferred experience working with retail or hourly employee populations
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Even-keeled, fair demeanor, who the team will trust to listen without judgment and work on solutions. You must feel confident in communicating with people during difficult situations and maintaining neutrality
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft/Google Office Suite
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred
  • Solutions oriented and creative thinker
