Research Team Lead at Center for AI and Digital Policy

Canan Erez has a diverse work experience in the fields of AI, digital policy, teaching, and technology. Canan is currently working as a Research Team Lead at the Center for AI and Digital Policy since December 2022, where they also served as an AI Policy Clinic - Research Fellow starting from August 2022. Canan is also a Graduate Teaching Fellow in AI & Data Science at Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences since October 2022.

Prior to these roles, Canan worked at Apple as a Software QA Tester since October 2020 and later took on the responsibilities of an Inclusion & Diversity Advocate and Data Protection Officer (DPO). Canan was also an AI/ML Computational Linguist & Project Leader for Siri at Apple.

Additionally, Canan has experience in event organizing as an Event Organizer for the German American Conference at Harvard from May 2021 to December 2021. Canan was also a Student Ambassador for the Harvard WECode: Women Engineers Code Conference in February and March 2018.

Canan has also contributed to the tech industry through their role as a Mentor in Tech for Mentors in Tech (MinT), where they helped tech students at smaller colleges launch their careers and bridge the social capital gap in mentoring and industry connections.

Prior to that, Canan worked at Microsoft as the STEP International Interns Lead and in the Compliance & Technology Unit for Responsible AI. Canan was a Forbes Under 30 Scholar at Forbes and served as a Team Lead/Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oxford.

Canan started their professional career at SAP, where they worked in Global Customer Operations and the Center for Digital Leadership.
