Berenice East

Berenice East has a strong background in finance and accounting, with over 17 years of work experience. Berenice currently holds the position of VP, Chief Accounting Officer, and Controller at Checkout.com since June 2022. Prior to this, Berenice worked at Citi for 10 years, holding various roles including Managing Director, Transformation Lead, Managing Director, Lead Finance Officer Equities and Securities Services, Director, Collateral Global Process Owner, Director, Booking Model Management, and Director, ICG and Corporate Accounting Policy. Before joining Citi, they worked at KPMG for 8 years, where they held positions such as Manager and Senior Associate in Transaction Services, as well as Senior Associate in Audit. Their expertise lies in IPO, M&A, restatements, accounting conversion, technical research and advice, post-deal integration assistance, and financial services audit.

Berenice East's education history begins with their studies at the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria from 1998 to 2000. During this time, they pursued a degree in Marketing Management under the field of Commerce.

Afterward, they enrolled at the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria again in 2001, where they studied Finance and Investment Sciences for one year.

In 2002, Berenice attended the University of Johannesburg and completed a degree in Accounting Sciences, focusing on the field of Accounting.

Berenice then took the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (South Africa) Professional Practice Exam in 2005, further expanding their knowledge in the field of Accounting and Auditing.

The following year, in 2006, Berenice earned their Chartered Financial Analyst certification from the CFA Institute, specializing in Financial Analysis.

Also in 2006, they completed the SAICA Qualifying Exam at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, solidifying their expertise in Accounting and Auditing.
