Stijn Tissink has had a range of work experiences in the maritime industry. Beginning in 2016, they worked as a Cadet for Feederlines, gaining experience as a deck and engine cadet on board the M.V. Veendiep. In the same year, they also worked as a Technical Trainee for Allseas, specifically on board the M.V. Pioneering Spirit. In 2018, Tissink joined Chemgas Shipping B.V. as a Cadet before transitioning to Chemgas. There, they held roles as an Able seaman, Third Officer, Second Officer, and currently serves as Chief Officer.

Stijn Tissink attended Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences from 2013 to 2018, where they pursued a degree in Maritiem Officier. Stijn obtained several additional certifications, including Medical First Aid, Advanced Fire Fighting, Medical Care, Ship Security Officer, Certificate of Proficiency on board of tankers, Training in Advanced Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations, Marcom A, Security Awareness, and Security Training for seafarers with designated security duties. The institutions where they obtained these certifications include FMTC Safety, STC Group, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. Stijn Tissink also completed training in Shiphandling at Simwave, but the details regarding the obtained month and year are not provided.
