Callum Akehurst-Ryan

Callum Akehurst-Ryan has a diverse work experience in the field of software testing and development. Callum started their career as a QA Test Analyst at Cisco Systems, where they provided processes and reporting mechanisms for end-to-end system and user testing. Callum also developed full end-to-end tests for broadcast technology projects.

After that, Callum worked as a Test Consultant at Testing Solutions Group Ltd, providing test execution for banking industry projects and developing standard test reporting. Callum also analyzed customer and employee satisfaction surveys to identify improvement opportunities.

Callum then joined Omnico Group as a QA Test Analyst, where they played a key role in developing and implementing agile testing methodologies in the retail sector. Callum also led the QA team and trained staff on agile testing practices.

At NICE Ltd, Callum served as a Test Lead and Agile Team Lead, leading a multi-disciplined Agile development team in the public safety sector. Callum developed and implemented agile test strategies, focusing on functional and performance testing for a large Windows Desktop application.

Callum then worked at eBay as a Quality Engineer, where they were an embedded tester in an Agile software delivery team. Callum focused on risk analysis and exploratory testing, aiming to enhance the visibility of quality.

Next, Callum joined Scott Logic as a Senior Test Engineer, working as a software testing consultant across various projects, including FinTech and government sectors. Callum advised on testing techniques and performed different types of testing, such as accessibility, API, UI, integration, and automated testing. Callum also provided information to clients to shape design and ensure quality.

Callum briefly worked at Bloom & Wild as a Senior Tester, before joining SurvivorsUK as a Dungeon Master (Group work facilitator). During this time, they facilitated group work for the organization.

Most recently, Callum has been working at Improbable as a Senior QA Tester, embedded in product teams to shape and implement testing strategies for web applications. Callum championed full stack exploratory testing and pushed for testing earlier in the development process.

Callum is currently employed as a Principal Test Engineer at Chetwood Financial Limited, where they continue to contribute their expertise in software testing.

Callum Akehurst-Ryan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Combined Arts (Psychology and Sociology) from the University of Leicester from 2003-2006. Prior to that, they studied Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, and Physics at Queensbury Upper School from 1998-2003. In addition to their education, Callum also obtained certifications in PRINCE2 Project Management at the Practitioner Level in 2011, ISEB Software Testing at the Intermediate Level in 2009, and ISEB Software Testing at the Foundation Level in 2008.
