Kim H. Tran

Chief of Staff at Chicago State University

Kim H. Tran is the Chief of Staff at Chicago State University. Prior to that, they served as Policy Director for the Campaign for College Opportunity from January 2012 to December 2014. In that role, they oversaw and advanced an ambitious policy agenda through a full-time state legislature, state executive departments, and governing boards of postsecondary education systems. Kim developed innovative strategies to achieve meaningful public policy reforms; these reforms included the significant multi-year creation and implementation of a statewide transfer degree pathway for California that addressed decades of college access and completion barriers. In this role, they synthesized complex statutes, regulations, and state budget details in order to further stakeholders’ understanding of higher education issues and to mobilize advocacy partners as ambassadors of the organization’s policy positions. Kim also delivered expert testimony at legislative committee hearings, and served as an analytical resource for policymakers, public administrators, and institution leaders. After a two-year commitment, they decided to pursue graduate education towards a Ph.D./doctorate degree.

Kim H. Tran has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Arts in Politics from New York University. Kim is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Penn State University in International Relations and Social Data Analytics.
