Shujun Chang

Associate Director, Cell Biology at Cibus

Shujun Chang has a strong background in cell biology and research. They are currently working as an Associate Director of Cell Biology at Cibus since July 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior Research Scientist at Plastomics, Inc. from April 2022 to July 2022. At Benson Hill, from March 2020 to March 2022, they served as a Senior Scientific Manager in the Trait Delivery department. They also worked as a Senior Scientist in Trait Delivery at Benson Hill from March 2019 to February 2020. Shujun Chang has extensive experience in research and technology leadership in the field of crop genome modification and transformation. They worked at DowDupont-Pioneer (Corteva Agriscience) as a Research Scientist and Technology Leader from September 2011 to February 2019. Prior to that, they were a Senior Scientist at ArborGen Inc from October 2002 to August 2011. During their time at ArborGen, they led multiple transformation teams and contributed to the development of transformation technologies for various plant species. Before ArborGen, they worked as a Research Scientist at Westvaco, MeadWestvaco from October 1995 to September 2002, focusing on hardwood tissue culture and genetic engineering projects. Shujun Chang began their career as a Post-Doctoral Assistant Scientist at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology from July 1994 to September 1995, where they conducted research on gene regulation and developed transformation systems for Populus deltoides. Prior to that, they worked as an Assistant Research Scientist and Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University, where they conducted research on drought stress tolerance in loblolly pine and isolation of genes associated with stress tolerance.

Shujun Chang holds a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology & Molecular Biology from Texas A&M University and an M.S. in Plant Ecophysiology from The Ohio State University. In addition, Chang has obtained a certification in Data Analytics from the WashU Technology & Leadership Center in 2020.
