Keith Niven has an extensive work experience in municipal government, focusing on community development, planning, and economic development. Keith is currently serving as the Community Development Director for the City of Federal Way since January 2023. Prior to that, they worked as the Planning Manager for the same city from March 2021 to December 2022.
Before joining the City of Federal Way, Keith held various positions with the City of Issaquah. Keith worked as the Development Services Director from April 2016 to December 2020, overseeing the city's development activities. Keith also served as the Economic Development Director from July 2012 to December 2020, leading initiatives to promote economic growth in the city. Prior to these roles, they worked as a Program Manager from June 1998 to June 2012.
Keith started their career as a Planner with the City of Auburn, WA from March 1996 to May 1998.
Keith Niven's education history includes earning a Bachelor of Science in Design, specializing in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning, from Arizona State University in the years 1982 to 1988. Keith later pursued a Master of Environmental Planning degree from the same university, studying from 1989 to 1992.
