Assistant Director, Infrastructure Development at City of Fort Worth

Ty Thompson is the current Assistant Director of Infrastructure Development at the City of Fort Worth. Prior to this, they served as the Assistant City Engineer at the City of Rowlett from January 2016 to January 2018. In this role, they managed the preparation and updating of drainage design criterion documents to city's existing design guides, standard construction details, and specifications. Ty also worked as a representative at city council sessions and engineering meetings to provide subject area expertise for all zoning and planning hearings giving commissioners and council members. Additionally, they handled the pre-development conference, planning, zoning, and approval of engineering plans and contracts, and construction while serving as engineering representative for all development applications.

During their time at the City of Rowlett, Ty also liaised with the director of public works and staff with matters affecting both individual residents and large-scale developments. Ty accomplished all plan reviews for new developments from pre-application meeting to construction and secured authority for any private projects within city of Rowlett's plan review and construction management. Ty also executed required construction inspections and construction documentation, floodplain studies, and traffic studies. Under their leadership, the city's stormwater impact charge brought in an additional $1.5M. Additionally, they led the CIP projects as a result of vacant positions of municipal engineer and director of public works. Furthermore, they updated City's construction standard details and authored Drainage Design Manual, Water, and Sewer Design Manual, and Transportation Manual. Lastly, they supervised the revision of City's stormwater impact fees, which involved coordinating with general public and managing the consultant for presentations at public hearings.

Ty Thompson has a Masters of Public Administration from Texas Tech University in City Management. Ty also has a Bachelor of Science - BS from Texas Tech University in Civil Engineering. Ty has a diploma from Klein High School. Ty is certified by the Texas Floodplain Manager Association as a Certified Floodplain Manager and by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers as a Professional Engineer.
