Curtis Smith has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Curtis started their career as an Infantry Officer in the Canadian Forces, where they led and trained teams of soldiers. Curtis later served as the Operations Officer for a reserve unit and as the Executive Assistant to the Commander of the Canadian Defence Academy. Curtis then worked as an Articling Student at Graham Sirman, Barrister & Solicitor before joining the Office of the JAG, where they held various roles including Deputy Judge Advocate and ACOS 3. Curtis also worked at the Law Society of Ontario as the Team Manager of Investigation Services and later as the Manager of the Enforcement Department. More recently, they held the position of Senior Manager of Investigations at the Office of the Independent Police Review Director. Currently, Curtis is the Director of Licensing & Enforcement at the City of Kingston.

Curtis Smith has an extensive education history across various fields. Curtis obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History (Honours) from the Royal Military College of Canada/Collège militaire royal du Canada, where they studied from 1990 to 1994. Curtis then pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at Queen's University from 1999 to 2004. Finally, Curtis earned a Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where they studied from 2012 to 2014.
