Alex Kate Halvey

Alex Kate Halvey currently serves as a Water Resources Specialist at the City of Tumwater since October 2025. Prior to this role, Alex held the position of AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy from September 2023 to September 2025, contributing to the State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial policy team. Before this tenure, Alex worked as an AIP/AAAS Congressional Science & Engineering Fellow in the United States Senate from August 2022 to August 2023. Alex's academic background includes a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, where also a Graduate Research Assistant managed a lab of over ten researchers and synthesized research publications within the field. Additional experiences include research roles at the University of Delaware and internship positions at Raytheon, focusing on materials characterization and data processing in semiconductor applications. Alex holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware and a Graduate Certificate in Science, Technology and Public Policy from the University of Michigan.
