Mike Whelan

Mike Whelan has extensive experience in the biotechnology industry, specializing in vaccine development. Mike currently holds the position of VP Project Leader & Head of PMO at Clover Biopharmaceuticals, where they lead vaccine development projects and oversees the establishment of a Project Management Office. Prior to their current role, Whelan worked as a Director at Whelan Enterprises Ltd, providing freelance services in project management, laboratory set up, grant writing, and fund raising. Mike also served as a Project Leader and Programme Manager at CEPI, leading multi-million dollar international vaccine development projects, particularly focused on neglected diseases and epidemic preparedness. Before that, Whelan worked as the Director of R&D at iQur Limited, where they developed a novel vaccine platform. Mike also held the position of Head of Research at Onyvax Ltd, specializing in immuno-oncology and successfully conducting clinical trials for a prostate cancer vaccine. Whelan began their career as a Postdoctoral Scientist at The Edward Jenner Institute for Vaccine Research and the Institute for Animal Health, conducting research on vaccine development and cellular immunity. Throughout their career, Whelan has demonstrated a strong interest in One Health approaches and has been involved in various initiatives to develop vaccines for neglected diseases.

Mike Whelan earned a PhD in Immunology from the Royal London Medical School from 1989 to 1992. Prior to that, they obtained a BSc in Biochemistry from Queen Mary University of London from 1986 to 1989. Mike's earlier education includes completing 3 A Levels and 10 O-Levels from Regent House.
