Shannan Velayas has extensive experience in strategic communications and public relations. Shannan currently holds the position of Vice President of Strategic Communications at the California Medical Association, a role they have held since January 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the Communications Director/Senior Aide for Senator Richard Pan from December 2014 to February 2022. From November 2009 to August 2014, they served as the Press Secretary/Spokesperson for the California Secretary of State, and from February 2002 to November 2008, they worked as the Communications Director for Assemblyman Mark Leno (D-San Francisco). In September 2006, they briefly held the position of Press Secretary for the Nicole Parra for Assembly Campaign.
