In 2010, Patterson also obtained a certification in Wilderness First Responder from NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute (WMI) and SOLO. Patterson continued their studies at The Johns Hopkins University and earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2013 to 2014. Additionally, from 2010 to 2014, Patterson took lessons in Classical and Jazz Violin at the Peabody Conservatory.
