Dan Bucan

VP, Northeastern Division at COATES FIELD SERVICE, INC

Dan joined Coates in 2020 as the Regional Director of our Northeastern Division and was promoted to the Vice President of the Northeastern Division in 2021. Dan has 30 years of right of way industry experience and began his career as a Management Trainee for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) where he gained experience in acquisition, relocation, property management, title abstracting, and outdoor advertising control while advancing to Supervisor and District 12 Right of Way Administrator (Southwestern PA). While at PennDOT, Dan oversaw the appraisal and contractor procurement while working with the survey, utility, rail, and environmental teams to support construction, maintenance, and design activities. During this time, he also worked with other Mid-Atlantic region right of way departments and the Federal Highway Administration to establish performance measures and develop best practices to enhance right of way delivery. After 20 years with PennDOT Dan retired and began working with various consulting and engineering companies, gaining critical skills and knowledge in project oversight activities for pipeline, electric transmission, and storm hardening projects, leading a team of 300+ employees spanning 23 states east of the Mississippi River.

Dan received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration, with minors in Finance and Economics, and his M.B.A. Business Administration from Robert Morris University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a licensed real estate salesperson and notary public in Pennsylvania with memberships in PAR and NAR. Dan also possesses the FAA, CTO, and Private Pilot Certifications. Dan holds the SR/WA designation with the International Right of Way Association and is in his second year as IRWA Region 5 Vice Chair after completing two years as Secretary. He was awarded the 2015 Professional of the Year for Chapter 13 and is currently serving as Co-Chair for the IRWA's International Education Conference being held in Cleveland, Ohio in 2022. He is also a member of the American Association of Professional Landman (AAPL) and local Chapters: Northern Appalachian Landman Association (NALA), Michael Late Benedum Chapter (MLBC); American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Ohio Oil and Gas Association (OOGA), and the Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce (PAACC).
