Elias Bjoerne

Senior Software Engineer at Cognite

Elias Bjoerne has a diverse work experience spanning several positions and industries. Starting in 2012, they co-managed and operated Singsaker Sommerhotell, where they successfully increased turnover and employed 11 staff members. In 2014, they interned at Kongsberg Maritime, working on developing the control system for an autonomous blimp. Elias was responsible for implementing a thruster allocation system and helped achieve successful flight. In 2015, they interned at DNV GL, participating in the OSV floating lab project and presenting their concept to engineers at the company. During their time at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), they held various student assistant roles, later becoming a senior student assistant responsible for organizing and quality assuring exercises. In 2017, they worked as an Exchange Research Fellow at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, focusing on research related to visual navigation algorithms for micro UAVs. Lastly, Elias joined Cognite in 2019 as a Data Scientist II before transitioning to the role of Senior Data Scientist and then Senior Software Engineer in 2020 and 2022, respectively.

Elias Bjoerne pursued their education in a chronological order, starting from their high school studies. From 2007 to 2010, they attended Fagerborg Vgs., where they focused on Studiespesialiserende with a specialization in Realfag (natural sciences).

Moving forward, Elias enrolled at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2012 for their bachelor's degree. Elias completed their Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, spanning from 2012 to 2014.

In 2013, Elias participated in a UCSB exchange program at UC Santa Barbara, where they focused on Control Engineering. This program lasted a year, concluding in 2014.

Following their exchange program, Elias returned to NTNU and pursued a Master's degree from 2010 to 2016. During this period, they specialized in Robotics Technology and Navigation.

Lastly, Elias continued their education at NTNU by undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Automation and Navigation from 2016 to 2019.
