Nicklaus Smith has worked in the technical field since 2016. In 2016, they worked as an Instructor at iD Tech Camps, where they taught programming courses in Java and C++ to teenage students, as well as introductory programming classes using Minecraft and Tynker for preteen students. Nicklaus was also responsible for maintaining a fun, engaging, and safe environment at camp.
From 2017 to 2021, Nicklaus worked at NI (National Instruments) in various roles. As a V&V Engineer, they wrote code to automate testing of in-development products, accelerated development by reducing time taken to get data from prototype builds, and allowed for quality decisions to be made from data by logging it in a schema compatible with in-house data visualization tools. As a Product Support Engineer, they were responsible for supportability of NI's C Series Controllers Hardware from within the R&D organization and provided second-line support for issues that had critical deadlines or required in-depth knowledge of the product line. As a Technical Support Engineer, they provided technical support to customers using NI's Automated Test products.
Currently, Nicklaus is working as a Field Application Engineer at Quantifi Photonics, where they provide technical support to customers using their optical test systems, advises on technical requirements for pre-sales opportunities, with inside sales as well as 3rd party distributors, and builds demonstration systems to showcase their products at trade shows.
Nicklaus Smith obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Physics with a minor in Music Technology from the Colorado School of Mines between 2013 and 2017. In April 2014, they received a Certified Solid Works Associate certification, and in May 2016 they received a First Aid/CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross.
