April McClain-Delaney

Director at Common Sense Media

A staunch advocate for women and children, April has more than 25 years’ experience in communications law, regulatory affairs and child advocacy across a broad spectrum of private sector and non-profit engagements. She serves as the Washington Director and board member for Common Sense Media and heads up the Delaney Charitable Foundation.

Her policy work focuses on digital citizenship, tech addiction, privacy, tech equity, teen anxiety and how media and economic issues impact women.

April began her professional career as law associate with Cohn & Marks, and then later served as assistant general counsel and regulatory affairs director at Orion Satellite.

She has served on numerous boards; she currently serves on the Meridian Women’s Leadership Council; Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security; Georgetown Law Center (past chair); Northwestern University Board of Trustees; the International Center for Research on Women; Innocents at Risk; and the Sun Valley Community School.

She is the recipient of the Patrice Wallace Caritas Service Award; 2019 John Carroll Award Recipient; 2017 Common Sense Media Award; Northwestern Alumni Award; John Carroll Society Awardee; and the Paul R. Dean Law Award.

April received her BS from Northwestern University and her JD from Georgetown Law Center and is member of DC Bar and the FCBA. She is married to former Congressman John Delaney of Maryland and the mother of their four daughters.
