Karla has 20+ years of fundraising and leadership experience at education and conservation organizations. Her work has taken her to The Bahamas and Costa Rica, and most recently she worked at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton NJ. Karla is a passionate networker and has used this sensibility to raise money for annual, capital, and comprehensive campaigns. She has executed large fundraising events, managed development operations and overseen donor communications. But, her favorite part of fundraising is talking to donors, hearing their stories, and finding ways to make their philanthropy mutually impactful.
In addition to fundraising, Karla has been a leader and advocate for community-based programs. In her international positions, she worked to connect local students and entrepreneurs with opportunities that enhanced learning and economic development. She feels strongly that partnerships at the grass-roots level make organizations better, more thoughtful, and inspiring.
Karla received her BA in international relations from American University and her MBA from Georgetown University, but received her best schooling while living in five countries and traveling to more than 60. She has slept on yak dung beds in Tibet, been SCUBA diving with whale sharks in Mozambique, and hiked over 200 miles in Glacier Park.
