Matthew D. Hales

Mr. Hales was named Chief Operating Officer for Commonwealth Associates, Inc. in February 2023. Mr. Hales has more than twenty years of engineering experience in the power industry, specializing in transmission line engineering, project management, steel pole design, project siting, and team management. Mr. Hales came to Commonwealth in 2012 and served as an engineering section manager before being named Director of Engineering for Transmission & Distribution Engineering in 2017. His prior experience includes eight years as a transmission line engineer for American Electric Power. In addition to serving as a member of Commonwealth’s Board of Directors since 2019, Mr. Hales also serves as Chair of the Board for the Gonzaga University T&D Industry Advisory Board. Mr. Hales holds a B.S. in civil engineering from The Ohio State University, is a registered professional engineer in six states, and holds his PMP certificate.
