Abraham Thariath

Executive Director/Head Process Development and Manufacturing at ContraFect

Abraham Thariath has a diverse work experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Abraham started their career as a Post Doctoral fellow at the University of Notre Dame in 1993. Abraham then worked as an Associate scientist at the National Research Council and NeuroChem Inc from 1996 to 1998, where they were involved in the development of a drug screening assay for Alzheimer's disease.

In 1998, they joined KS Avicenna as a Production manager & Senior Scientist, where they worked until 2002. During this time, they gained experience in production management and scientific research.

From 2002 to 2004, they worked as the Director of Product Development and CMC at Cyotvax Biotechnologies, focusing on the development of monoclonal antibodies and vaccines for infectious diseases.

In 2004, Thariath became a Consultant in CMC and drug development at Biological Management Services Inc. Abraham helped start-up companies with drug development plans, CMC, and regulatory strategies. Abraham also managed CMO and CRO activities for preclinical development and manufacturing.

From 2005 to 2010, Thariath worked at Y's Therapeutics as the Director of Chemistry Manufacturing and Control. Here, they oversaw CMC activities and contributed to the company's growth.

From 2010 to 2016, they joined NKT Therapeutics Inc. as the Senior Director of CMC. During their time there, they played a significant role in the company's CMC operations.

Thariath's most recent role is the Executive Director and Head of Process Development and Manufacturing at ContraFect Corp. Since 2017, they have been responsible for process and formulation development, GMP manufacturing, lot release stability programs, and CMC preparations for IND updates. Abraham has full responsibility for CMC.

Abraham Thariath obtained their Bachelor of Science (hons) degree in Biochemistry/Biotechnology from the University of Waterloo, graduating in 1988. After that, they pursued their Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from the same institution, completing the program in 1990. Continuing their education, Abraham enrolled in the University of Waterloo once again and earned their Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1993.
