Ren Barrus

Ren Barrus has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. They started their career at Petzl America as a Warehouse Tech, where they handled shipping and inventory management. They then worked as a Technical Trip Leader at the University of Utah, leading backcountry trips and ensuring the safety of participants. Ren also served as a Guide and Manager/Lead Guide at Southeast Exposure Sea Kayak Company, where they led kayaking, biking, and canopy tours.

Ren later joined Mountain Education & Development LLC as a Climbing Guide/Instructor, providing instruction and guiding climbers. They also worked as an U-EXPLORE Instructor at the University of Utah, educating others about outdoor recreation and public land policy. Ren then transitioned to owning and operating their own business, Mountain Light Creative, as the Owner/Creative Director.

In their most recent roles, Ren worked at Cotopaxi, starting as a CX Intern and progressing to become a CX Guide, CX Team Lead, and CX Manager. In these positions, Ren focused on enhancing the customer experience, team unity, and operational efficiency. They restructured the CX department and implemented strategies to optimize resource utilization and enhance sustainability. Ren's most recent role at Cotopaxi is Senior Director of CX & Circularity Operations, where they continue to prioritize customer satisfaction and sustainability initiatives.

Ren Barrus attended the University of Utah from 2012 to 2014 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Adventure and Outdoor Programs. In 2013, they also attended NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) as an Outdoor Educator. Ren Barrus has additional certifications including Single Pitch Instructor from the American Mountain Guides Association (obtained in October 2013), Leave No Trace Master Educator from the Leave No Trace Center For Outdoor Ethics (obtained in 2013), AVI 1 from the American Avalanche Association (obtained in 2013), and Wilderness First Responder from NOLS Wilderness Medicine (obtained in April 2012).
