Marcia Mayeda

Director, Animal Care and Control at County of Los Angeles

Marcia Mayeda is currently the Director of Animal Care and Control at the County of Los Angeles. Marcia has dedicated their career to animal welfare and has over 28 years of experience in the field.

Mayeda started their career in animal welfare at the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley in January 1993, where they served as the Director of Animal Care. In this role, they oversaw all animal care functions for 40,000 animals per year and supervised 45 department-assigned personnel. Marcia also managed a $1.7 million budget and 24/7 animal care operations.

In 1996, Mayeda was promoted to Director of Animal Services, where they oversaw contracted animal control services, licensing, and code enforcement activities for nine incorporated cities in Santa Clara County. In this role, they supervised 40 department-assigned personnel and managed a $2 million budget. Marcia also established the humane investigations and code enforcement divisions and formalized officer and dispatcher training programs.

In 2000, Mayeda was again promoted, this time to Director of Community Outreach. In this role, they were responsible for representing and promoting the organization to the community. Marcia also oversaw the divisions of animal cruelty investigations, animal behavior, humane education, and volunteer programs. From 1993 to 2001, they also served as the agency's spokesperson.

Mayeda has been recognized for their work in animal welfare by numerous organizations. In 2001, they were named "Humanitarian of the Year" by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Marcia has also been honored by the California Legislature, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, and the City of San Jose.

Marcia Mayeda received their Masters of Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco and their Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL. Marcia is also certified by the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators as a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator.

Marcia Mayeda reports to Fesia Davenport, Acting CEO. They work with Ricardo D. Garcia - Public Defender, Amy J. Bodek - Director, Regional Planning, and Jonathan Lucas - Chief Medical Examiner, Coroner.
