Stephen Whetstine

UX / UI Director at Crystal Dynamics

Stephen Whetstine has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Stephen started their career in 2004 at American Greetings as a Lead Design Illustrator before moving on to a Senior Illustrator role at Hirshorn Zuckerman Design Group in 2005. In 2006, they worked as a Design Illustrator at Scott Hull Associates. From 2007 to 2009, Whetstine was an Art Director and Senior Designer at Ham in the Fridge, where they oversaw and developed game concepts for various clients including Adult Swim and Nickelodeon. In 2009, they joined Electrotank as a Senior UI Designer and 2D Artist, working on a game for Ubisoft. Whetstine then moved to Telltale Games as an Art Director, contributing to the design assets for several interactive projects and games. From 2011 to 2018, they worked at WB Games as a UI Lead and Advanced Artist, specializing in UX design and establishing the look and feel of WB Games digital products. Whetstine furthered their career at Microsoft from 2018 to 2020, serving as a UX/UI Design Lead for Minecraft and focusing on creating an accessible user experience. Currently, since October 2020, they hold the position of UX/UI Director at Crystal Dynamics. Additionally, throughout their career, they have worked independently as an Owner/Creative Director at OneBlueBird Studio, providing illustration and design services to various clients including Warner Bros., Nickelodeon, and NASA.
