Senior Engineer, Microfluidics at Cytovale

Thomas Carey has a diverse work experience in various engineering and research roles. Thomas is currently working as an Engineer II, Microfluidics at Cytovale since March 2023. Prior to this, Thomas was a Co-Founder & President of Bay Area Microfluidics Network, a non-profit organization promoting innovation and collaboration in microfluidic technologies. Thomas held this role from May 2017 onwards. From August 2021 to January 2023, Thomas worked as an Engineer at Inscripta Inc. In their earlier years, they were a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Berkeley - Sohn Research Lab, where they developed new modalities for cancer detection and adapted these technologies for COVID-19 detection. Before that, Thomas gained experience as a Research Engineer at Massachusetts General Hospital and as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Medtronic. Thomas also served as the Chief Technology Officer at Serengetee LLC and worked as a Research Assistant at Keck Graduate Institute.

Thomas Carey completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering & Biology from Harvey Mudd College in the years 2009 to 2013. Thomas then pursued further education at the University of California, Berkeley, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering from 2015 to 2021.
