Yanela Montoya

Yanela Montoya has a diverse work experience that spans different industries and roles. Most recently, they served as the Director of Advocacy at Dallas Afterschool starting in December 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Texas 2036 from June 2019 to November 2021 as a Special Assistant to the CEO, where they provided organizational support and assisted with various tasks including managing schedules, organizing meetings, and preparing meeting materials.

Before their time at Texas 2036, Yanela worked as a Bilingual Elementary School Teacher for Dallas Independent School District from August 2013 to May 2018. In this role, they demonstrated leadership skills by leading students to high exam scores, serving as the grade level chair for Kindergarten and First Grade teams, organizing field trips, and representing the grade level on the Executive Team Committee.

Yanela also has experience in the higher education sector, having served as an Interim Coordinator for Environmental Studies at Austin College from January 2013 to May 2013. Additionally, they worked as a Summer Intern at The Land Institute in 2012.

Yanela Montoya has a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and Political Science from Austin College. Yanela also holds a Master's degree in Education Policy and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Additionally, they have a certification in Bilingual Generalist EC-6.
