Alejandro Cantarero

Field CTO AI at DataStax

Alejandro Cantarero's work experience includes a wide range of roles in various companies. Starting in 2008, they worked as a Software Engineer at Ubiquity Broadcasting Corporation until 2012. From 2012 to 2013, they served as a Post-Doc Research Staff at HRL Laboratories. Alejandro then joined Timeline Labs as a Senior Data Scientist from January to June 2013, followed by becoming the Head of Data Research until January 2015. In 2015, Cantarero became the Director of Data Science at SeaChange International until February 2016. From March 2016 to April 2017, they worked as the Director of Data Science and Engineering at tronc (formerly Tribune Publishing), where they led various data initiatives and teams. Alejandro then served as the VP of Data at Los Angeles Times from August 2018 to March 2019. Moving forward, they joined Shopify as a Data Science Manager from June 2022 to May 2023. Simultaneously, they worked as an Advisor at Nami. Their advisory role at Nami started in June 2022 and was ongoing while they served as the CTO from April 2019 to May 2022. Currently, Cantarero is working at BLOK SPORTS as an Advisor since January 2021. Additionally, they are slated to become the Field CTO for AI at DataStax starting in June 2023. Throughout their career, Cantarero has made significant achievements, including leading the consolidation of different data teams at tronc, implementing modern big data and BI practices, and providing scalable machine learning solutions.

Alejandro Cantarero completed their education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder. Alejandro then pursued further studies and obtained a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics from UCLA between 2005 and 2007. Alejandro later continued their educational journey at UCLA and successfully completed their Ph.D. in Mathematics from 2007 to 2011.
