Job description

This position provide services including reviews employment applications and evaluates work history, education and training, job skills, compensation needs and other qualifications of applicants.  Records additional knowledge, skills, abilities, interests, test results and other date pertinent to selection and referral of applicants.  Review job orders and matches applicants with job requirements.

Employment Function:

  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with the business community and employer contacts

  • Provide employer education on employability of deaf/hard-of-hearing workers, and deaf awareness and technical assistance workshops

  • Advocate for employability and communication access for clients

  • Assist clients with career exploration and determine appropriate types of work to match client’s capabilities

  • Provide job retention assistance and follow-up services as needed

  • Provide document assistance services for staff and clients as needed

  • Assist in the recruitment of potential clients, determine eligibility of clients, enroll and orient them to services

  • Compile statistical information and maintain files/case notes on clients

  • Feeding daily logs in database system

  • Provide support to the agency and community and other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director

Qualifications:

  • 1 – 3 years documented experience in job placement, vocational rehabilitation, health and human services, or related field; AA required or BA preferred

  • Fluent in American Sign Language

  • Strong background knowledge in the field of Deaf Culture

  • Knowledge of, or experience in advocacy and related activities involving the Americans with Disabilities Act; Section 504 or the Rehabilitation Act, and other employment related issues

  • Participate in teamwork activities-events

  • Ability to use computer and database software; knowledge of MS Office 2013 Suite

  • Able to travel to appointments within the work week
