About the role

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Machine Learning (particularly Deep Learning) techniques and will have begun to gain experience in the successful application of AI techniques to challenging problems. 

As a consulting company, we value strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients. Therefore, this role will have client-facing elements and require effective team working, both internally and externally. You will be responsible for interpreting high-level requirements into functional solutions and presenting these to the team in a professional manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior data scientists to develop and implement data-driven solutions

  • Help the team to identify and understand the right customer problem to solve and propose solutions that are aligned with their business goals

  • Assist the team in converting business requirements into technical requirements

  • Work with large unstructured datasets, analysing and reporting detailed insights as to the nature of the data

  • Preparation of training sets for Machine Learning, according to established best practice

  • Training and assessment of AI models, optimising for greatest accuracy

  • Write internal documentation

  • Contribute to client-facing presentations

  • Collaborate with the engineering and DevOps team to ensure the appropriate infrastructure is being used and the produced ML code is at a good standard

  • Maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data science needs and report results

  • Research and stay up to date with the latest AI methods, techniques, and tools

  • Share DS/ML knowledge internally and externally (e.g., write blog posts and/or white papers, give talks at meetups and DS events)

  • Provide technical feedback on the work of other data scientists

About you:

  • Experience applying Machine Learning/Data Science to challenging problems, preferably with real-world industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Capable of thriving in a dynamic environment, adapting to shifting priorities, and navigating evolving objectives with confidence and flexibility
  • Has experience with collaborative development using version control systems like git and Github within the context of a team
  • Great programming skills in Python, with a basic understanding of software engineering best practice.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, uncertainty and working in a dynamic environment, where priorities change frequently and objectives may not be well defined
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyse issues, identify causes, recommend solutions quickly and structure and prioritise an approach for maximum impact. We focus on delivering value to clients rather than micro-optimising models
  • Lifelong learner mentality, a drive to master new technologies and techniques, and willingness to work outside your comfort zone

Bonus Points for:

  • A solid understanding of agile methodologies and experience working in an agile environment

  • Experience with LLMs and NLP particularly HuggingFace and Meta models

  • Proven experience using top-tier AI frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenAI, Scikit-Learn, HuggingFace etc.

  • Experience with a cloud computing ecosystems such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

  • A thorough understanding of Software Engineering best practices (automatic unit testing, integration tests, debugging, error handling, logging, coding standards and naming conventions)
