Senior Attorney at Defenders of Wildlife

Jane Davenport is a seasoned environmental attorney with extensive experience in federal litigation focused on wildlife and environmental protection. Currently serving as Senior Attorney at Defenders of Wildlife since June 2013, Davenport has represented clients in various environmental statutes, including the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act, with a particular emphasis on marine wildlife and freshwater species impacted by coal mining. Previously, Davenport held senior attorney roles at the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, Oceana, and Ocean Conservancy, where litigation efforts addressed key environmental issues such as conservation measures and marine biodiversity. Davenport also served as Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, managing significant cases involving federal environmental laws. Academic contributions include co-teaching an Environmental Externship seminar at American University Washington College of Law. Davenport holds a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School and an MES in Forestry & Environmental Studies from Yale University, along with dual degrees in Government and Asian Studies from Cornell University.
