Tom Wood

Senior Development Consultant at Dickerson Bakker

For 35 years, Tom has led development programs at two international ministries, a foundation, and several educational institutions, including 20 years at private schools. He has recruited and trained high-performing development teams that have raised over one billion dollars through donations and deferred giving. After earning his BA in Communication from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, he was hired by their Stewardship Department, where he discovered his gift for fundraising. Tom received his MBA in Entrepreneurship from Kennesaw State University and has held the professional CFRE certification since 2012.

Tom believes that educating a nonprofit’s donors is a key, and often missing, component to creating a successful major donor program. When done correctly, fundraising should bless both the people who are served by the organization and the donor. As a former teacher, coach, and school administrator, Tom brings his clients a broad range of experiences. He shares his passion for education with his wife, Sherry, an elementary school teacher. They have a married daughter who is a private preschool teacher and a son who is starting a career in commercial real estate.
