Viken Chinien has extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Viken started their career in 1994 as an Engineer at Advance Engineering Limited. Viken then worked as a Senior Analyst at Halcrow, a CH2M HILL Company, from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, they joined the Steel Construction Institute as a Principal Engineer, where they managed the Fire and Blast Information Group and conducted research and development projects for the oil and gas industry. From 2007 to 2013, they worked at DNV as a Principal Consultant, leading projects in risk management and due diligence. In 2014, they became the Associate Director at DNV and was responsible for due diligence projects and safety and environmental studies. Viken then served as the Head of Due Diligence, UK & Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Head of Transaction Advisory at DNV before assuming their current role as the Head of Department, Enterprise Risk Management in June 2019. Throughout their career, Viken Chinien has gained expertise in risk management, due diligence, safety, and environmental studies in the energy and utilities sectors.
Viken Chinien has a diverse education history. Viken started their academic journey in 1990 at Imperial College London, where they completed their Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Aeronautical Engineering. Viken further pursued their studies at the same institution and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Advanced Mechanical Engineering in 1994. Showing a strong dedication to their field, Chinien continued their education at Imperial College London and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Structural Dynamics and Aerodynamics in 1999.
In 2005, Chinien chose to expand their knowledge beyond their engineering background and attended the Institute of Risk Management. There, they earned a Diploma in Risk Management, demonstrating their interest in the field and enhancing their expertise in managing risks.
With a commitment to staying up-to-date with emerging topics, Chinien pursued additional certification at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. In 2018, they obtained a certificate in Renewable Energy finance, showcasing their grasp of finance within the renewable energy sector. Following this, in 2020, Chinien acquired another certificate, this time in Sustainable Finance, furthering their expertise and understanding of sustainable financial practices.
Throughout their educational journey, Viken Chinien has remained focused on academic growth and expanding their knowledge in various fields, including engineering, risk management, renewable energy finance, and sustainable finance.
