LOCATION:  

DOROT is headquartered on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, with an additional site in Westchester County, and the team works on a hybrid schedule. The Senior Accountant will be expected to work in the Manhattan office at least three days a week.

THE OPPORTUNITY:  

The Senior Accountant will oversee and control the agency’s accounting function. They will maintain internal safeguards for receipts of revenue, expenses and grant budgets, and actual expenditures. They will also manage all financial accounting, grants  administration, and financial policies, and procedures. They will be responsible  for providing excellent customer service. Success requires effective cross functional collaboration with members of other departments. The Senior Accountant is a leader in projects that require solid accounting knowledge. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • Responsibilities include safeguarding assets and assuring accurate and timely recording of all transactions, closing the books monthly and providing financial reporting, financial system maintenance, internal controls and compliance.

  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and GAAP – external Auditors available as support.

  • Prepare monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure compliance, including a monthly review of the Trial Balance with corresponding analyses for each account.

  • Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure Grant compliance.  

    • Prepare reports and budgets in accordance with Grant contracts/agreements. Track net assets with donor restrictions monthly.
    • Assist Program Directors with the preparation of Grant budgets and funding applications.
    • Keep an up-to-date analysis of personnel allocations across Grants/funders and agency program areas.
  • Prepare audit schedules.

    • Review and reconcile Audited Financial Statement to internal reports.
      • Support Controller in Audit process and deliverables.
  • Review and assist external auditors in preparation of annual charitable returns (990 and Char 500).

  • Coordinate Worker’s Compensation audit.

  • Maintain the monthly investment roll forward schedule and work with Investment Firm to ensure accuracy.

  • Complete bank reconciliation monthly in Financial Edge.  

    • Responsible for cash management and preparation of cash flow statements.
  • Support HR with bi-weekly payroll processing and review in the platform BambooHR.

  • Comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements.

  • Reconcile quarterly 941, state and local tax filing and yearend documentation.

  • Oversee preparation of 1099 and file 1096.

  • Complete census report and file form 5500.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with CPA required.
  • 5+ years of not-for-profit accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud software packages preferred (Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge).
  • Proficiency in processing Payroll (experience with BambooHR is a plus).

Candidates can expect a base salary between $85,000-$95,000 commensurate with relevant experience.
