Laura Bruni

Laura Bruni graduated from California State Polytechnic, Pomona with a Bachelors in Architecture and a Minor in Philosophy. In 1993, Ms. Bruni went on to receive her teaching credential in California and has her certification to teach English as a Second Language. In 2011, she received her Masters in Elementary Education and she holds teaching credentials in both the state of California and Nevada along with a special education endorsement. In California Ms. Bruni was a teacher for 12 years, working with under privileged children in Los Angeles. During her last years in California, she became the literacy specialist where she helped train and support teachers in implanting the literacy program school wide. In Nevada, Ms. Bruni continued her role as the literacy specialist at the Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus and then became the Director of Student Services, where she oversaw various programs including: the diverse learner program, gifted program, international student program including ESL, and school wide testing K-8th. Her training includes early literacy training, participant in the UCLA literacy project, and training in literacy for readers when she attended the California Governor’s Literacy Institute. For several years, Ms. Bruni was a state presenter at the California Kindergarten Conference where she presented material that promoted literacy across curricular areas. She was selected as a lead teacher to promote effective instructional strategies for gifted and talented students as part of a special program lead by Dr. Sandra Kaplan from USC. When her school received the largest Annenberg Grant ever given to one school, she received extensive training in Writer’s Workshop by Lucy Calkins, which promoted writing in elementary schools. When she moved to Las Vegas with her husband, she worked at the College of Southern Nevada’s annex program to teach English as a Second Language to international students wishing to attend American colleges. She then went to work at the Adelson Educational Campus and worked with students who needed extra support and enrichment. Ms. Bruni sat on the Nevada Department of Education Special Education Advisory Committee where she helped to make policy change for students with special needs. She returns to the Adelson School having spent the last 6 years as a special education specialist in public schools.
