Director - AI at Dubber

Iain McCowan has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Iain is currently the Director of AI at Dubber since October 2021. Prior to that, they were the Co-Founder and CTO of Notiv, a start-up that was later acquired by Dubber in September 2021. Their role at Notiv involved focusing on AI technology, business strategy, and operations.

Before their entrepreneurial ventures, Iain worked as an Adjunct Professor at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) from 2018 to 2021. Iain also served as a Senior DSP Engineer at Biamp Systems from 2014 to 2018, where they developed speech and audio signal processing algorithms and contributed to the development of microphone array products.

In 2008, Iain founded Dev-Audio, a start-up that created the Microcone microphone array product. As the Managing Director, they led the company and oversaw the development of the product and its associated software. The Microcone received international recognition and awards.

Earlier in their career, Iain held roles as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Queensland University of Technology, a Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO, and a Senior Researcher at IDIAP Research Institute. These positions involved research and development in various fields including speech signal processing, audiovisual signal processing, natural language processing, and machine learning.

Iain began their career as a Software Engineer at DASCOM in 1997.

Iain McCowan obtained a PhD in Engineering from QUT (Queensland University of Technology) from 1998 to 2001. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Systems from QUT from 1992 to 1996. Additionally, they also completed a Bachelor of Information Technology from QUT from 1991 to 1996.

In terms of certifications, Iain McCowan completed several courses on Coursera, including Deep Learning Specialization, Sequence Models, Structuring Machine Learning Projects, Convolutional Neural Networks, Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization, and Neural Networks and Deep Learning. The exact dates of obtaining these certifications are not provided.
