Louis Renjel is the SVP of Federal Government & Corporate Affairs at Duke Energy. Louis has over 15 years of experience in developing and executing government affairs strategies, public affairs campaigns, and negotiating infrastructure transactions.

Renjel began their career in government relations at Cummins, Inc. in 2003. Louis was quickly promoted to Director of Government Relations, where they led the team responsible for advocating on behalf of Cummins before federal, state, and local government entities. In 2006, they left Cummins to join CSX as Vice President of Strategic Infrastructure.

At CSX, Renjel was responsible for overseeing the company’s interactions with government entities and developing strategies to protect and advance CSX’s interests. Louis also served as the chief negotiator on $2B+ worth of infrastructure transactions with government partners. In addition to their work in government relations, Renjel also led CSX’s efforts to transition to natural gas as a fuel source and spearheaded the company’s environmental and energy policy advocacy initiatives.

In 2017, Renjel left CSX to join Duke Energy as SVP of Federal Government & Corporate Affairs. In their current role, they are responsible for leading Duke Energy’s federal government affairs strategy and representing the company’s interests before Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies.

Louis Renjel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies, Biology from Randolph-Macon College. Louis then went on to earn a Master of Science in Environmental Science from The Johns Hopkins University. Finally, they earned a Master of Business Administration from Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business.

Louis Renjel reports to Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe, EVP, Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary. Louis Renjel works with Kelley Karn - VP, Regulatory Affairs & Policy - Indiana, Peter Toomey - SVP, Strategic Regulatory Initiatives.
