Jim Smith

Director of Law Enforcement Relations at ecoATM

Jim Smith has extensive work experience in law enforcement. Jim started their career in 1992 at the Monterey Park Police Department, where they held positions of increasing rank and authority for almost twenty years. In 2011, they became the Chief of Police at the Monterey Park Police Department, a position they held until 2020. In February 2020, they transitioned to the private sector and became the Director of Law Enforcement Relations at ecoATM Gazelle.

Jim Smith has a diverse education history. Jim holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of La Verne. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Los Angeles. Jim also received an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Administration of Justice from Mt. San Antonio College.

In addition to their formal education, Jim has obtained various certifications. In 1994, they completed the Executive / Management / Advanced / Supervisory / Intermediate / Basic California POST certification program offered by California POST. In 2001, they completed the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership program at the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. In 2003, they received the Executive Leadership certification from the FBI National Academy. Lastly, in 2008, they obtained the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and FEMA Incident Case Management (ICS) certifications from FEMA.
