Josh Kenchel has a diverse work experience, beginning in 2007 when they worked as a Referee for the Soccer Club of Oceanside. In 2011, they became a Co-Manager for the UCSD General Store Co-op, where they managed finances and initiated and directed a year-long remodel of the store layout. From 2012 to 2017, Josh worked at the University of California, San Diego, first as a Teaching Assistant, teaching up to 80 students in six different lab- and lecture-based biology courses and assisting with curriculum development, and then as a Research Assistant, investigating cyanobacterial biofilm formation and predator-prey interactions. In 2015, they joined the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program(me) (JET) as an Assistant Language Teacher, designing and teaching English curriculum and pioneering intercultural exchange programs and events. Most recently, in 2022, Josh began working as a Scientific Developer for Emerald Cloud Lab.
Josh Kenchel has a comprehensive educational background. Josh obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in 2010-2014 from UC San Diego, with a double major in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and Environmental Systems. Josh then attained a Master of Science (M.S.) in 2014-2015 from UC San Diego in Biology. Josh is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Biomolecular Science and Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, which they expect to complete in 2022. Josh also holds two additional certifications: Biofuels Processes from the University of California, San Diego, Extension, obtained in August 2013, and Professional Development Training: Hands-On Biofuel Production and Purification from the ISPE San Diego Chapter, obtained in February 2011.
