Senior Technical Expert, Africa at Environmental Incentives

Genevieve joins Environmental Incentives as a Senior Technical Expert with over 20 years of international experience as a conservation planning, strategy, and impact specialist. A skilled facilitator and Conservation Standards coach, she guides clients and implementing partners to apply evidence-based adaptive management, integrate conservation with other development sectors, and address climate change more effectively.

Genevieve is a leader in South Africa’s biodiversity planning community of practice where her insights, innovations, and technical guidance have helped put South Africa at the global forefront of applied systematic conservation planning. Internationally, Gen is experienced in producing both spatial and strategic biodiversity plans, as well as facilitating planning processes from project conception through monitoring, evaluation, and learning. As a specialist scientist working in government for over seven years, she focused on developing and mainstreaming biodiversity informants for land-use decision-making and protected area expansion. She has created user-friendly products for a range of purposes – from informing environmental authorizations and biodiversity offset negotiations to national infrastructure project design – and ensured integration into regulatory and governance processes.

Genevieve is inspired to work at the nexus of conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development and believes that future wellbeing depends on ensuring ecological outcomes whilst pursuing social and economic goals.
